Open Education Week Celebration at Lalitpur MaVi.

On the occasion of Open Education Week (March 5-9, 2018), FOSS Nepal organized a Talk Program to the school teachers there.

Before the program started, there was a mutual agreement between FOSS Nepal and an Lalitpur Ma. Vi to provide a venue for the program and a target audience while, FOSS Nepal would design the program, disseminate and execute the event. The lead to the agreement was done by School vice principal Gita Sitaula and FOSS Nepal executive member Ravi Bhattarai with the consent of President, Hempal Shrestha.

Initially, we started our talk with an introduction to Free and Open Source Software and what it means in the digital era. How does the openness has an impact a freedom of an individual and how important it is to everyone today including teachers and students as an active member of knowledge society. Sagun Ji started a warm up talk and made the point.

We took the talk further with choice of available technologies in free and open source software. We discussed the differences that various software and educational resources would make to the classrooms all across the geographies. This was put to it’s basics and lively through interactions by Hempal Sir.

The last part of the delivery was elaborated and clarified with some More examples on how free and open source technology and resources in classrooms. Be it platforms like: Life: Linux for Education (Edubuntu, Open Suse Life and Uber Student.). Learning resources like Wikipedia for Schools, Project Gutenberg CD and DVD, Ted Education, OLE resources, Free Books, Educational Resources.

End of the session after an hour, we discussed on how can we take this as a sustainable initiative for a long term implementation at the host institution and possible partners.

There were around 25 teachers from the school, 3 participants from FOSS Nepal, 3 from Axon System and 1 Guest. The Session went for an hour and half with a follow up session on strategic planning.

Over all, the talk program met it’s core objectives and made an impact. Hope this will make it’s own history.
Thank you all for all your support.
