Dear KUOSCians,
KUOSC 12 team has conducted the "Linux Talks 2012" event which was aimed to provide the foundation on Linux environment and FOSS. The event was two days long and we had above 50 students from first year participating in the event. Few students were from other batches as well.
On day 1(23rd September), me (Samar) conducted the session on introduction to FOSS and Linux, and FOSS philosophy. We discussed about the different linux distros and different desktop environments. We also talked about the software solutions provided by Linux OS in different sectors (routers, servers, emulations, embedded systems, etc.). And, we discussed about the linux kernel and linux filesystem architecture. We wrapped up day 1 with the discussion on different installation methods and discussion on different protocols.
On day 2(24th September), me and Chandan Goopta dai (from M.S. by Research) conducted the session on command line basics that included the basic terminal handling and basic networking utilities. We provided the basic How Tos on how the generic linux command works, how to look for the help on any command, and how to find the right command for any job. We discussed some of the basic commands (such as cd, mkdir, mv, cp, touch, nano, etc.) and near the end, we talked about basic network commands (such as ping, ifconfig, nc, dig, host, etc.). We finally ended the day and the event with this video:

Few of the clicks of the event have been uploaded to the facebook group, so you can check out the event :-) :
