Whenmaking potato salad, I cook whole, small potatoes. I find potatoes cooked whole retain flavor and have a better texture than when cooked chopped. I simmer the whole potatoes in salted water until I can push a fork through the center. Small to medium potatoes (like the ones pictured) take 15 to 20 minutes.

I chop the peeled potatoes into smaller chunks and sprinkle apple cider vinegar over them. This is one of my secrets for the best potato salad we learned from Alton Brown years ago! Vinegar makes the flavor of our potatoes pop and adds a little bite, which is amazing when mixed with the creamy dressing. Other vinegars or even pickle brine are good substitutes.

I love how simple our favorite potato salad dressing is to make. It only has 3 ingredients and tastes so good that I end up licking the bowl. We use the same dressing when making this creamy herb potato salad and turn it into a sauce for roasted fingerling potatoes.

3Meanwhile, set up an ice bath. Add cold water to a medium bowl filled with ice. Drain the potatoes and then place them into the ice bath. When cool, peel the potatoes by gently pinching the skin and pulling it away.

So easy and delicious! Naturally gluten free which is great for coeliacs like me, i also made it dairy free using vegan mayo and plain coconut yogurt for the sour cream. I also used about 1 TBS of pickle relish instead of a dill pickle which are hard to comeby in the Uk. I put the egg in for extra protein and ate it with some albacore tuna. So Yummy!! Thank you

This creamy potato salad is about to become one of your favourites. Why wait until summer for this side dish when you can have it from your kitchen to your table in 30 minutes, any weeknight you want.

In case you are wondering why I am sharing potato salad recipe in February, well this is 2021! I have spent the better part of a year at home, I am sure it will likely be the same for you if you are reading this.

My point is; Life is too short to keep a recipe for a particular season or time. I make potato salad a lot of times. Thanks to my pressure cooker, it takes only 5 minutes of active cooking time in my instant pot. I add all the dressing in the pot and serve. One-pot potato salad and hassle-free too.

It is important to choose the right potatoes for this recipe. The best potato for potato salads are potatoes that are able to hold their shape when cooked. When buying your spud for this salad, look out for waxy potatoes or and all-rounder potatoes. Most potatoes with thin skin would work for this recipe including red potato.

Since I discovered Marabel potatoes at one of my local supermarkets, I hardly use other types of potatoes these days, Marabel potato is now my all-rounder potato for many dishes. It is buttery, creamy, fluffy and delicious on its own. You can get the best out of it with simple seasoning.

Back to the recipe of the day creamy potato salad, I have kept this recipe simple and no, there is no egg in this recipe. I personally, do not see the need for boiled eggs in this classic salad but feel free to add it if you want.

Boil the potatoes: I did peel and cut my potatoes to size before boiling. However, you can decide not to do this and boil the potatoes whole, especially if you are using baby potatoes.

De-flame the onions: While the potatoes is boiling, de-flame the onions, pour cold water over the chopped onions and leave to stand for about 5 minutes. Drain and give it another rinse under a cold running tap.

This is the process of removing/reducing the pungent smell of onion by soaking it in cold water for a few minutes. It reduces the sulphuric components which give onions that very sharp and strong taste on the buds.

This mellows the flavour without compromising on taste. You can also use vinegar, lemon juice or warm water. Depending on the recipe you will be using the onions for, onions soaked in warm water for a long period of time tend to become soft.

there are few factors to consider here, the size of the potato would determine how long you boil it. If you are cooking a whole large potato then you would probably boil for 20 to 30 minutes. Baby potatoes or chopped potatoes will boil in about 10 to 15 minutes. Your potatoes is boiled when a knife can pass through it or fork tender.

The best potato salad is made by dousing hot potatoes with French Dressing so they take in the flavour before tossing in a creamy dressing. Complete with essential add-ins: bacon, cucumber and celery. Every bite is perfection!

The thing that makes it so special is pouring French Salad Dressing over the hot boiled potatoes. By dressing while hot, they absorb the French Salad Dressing flavour rather than just coating them. Which means, flavour inside the potatoes not just on the outside.

This potato salad will last 4 to 5 days in the fridge, and it just gets better with time. Make it once, and it will be a staple at all gatherings for years to come. I have never strayed from this recipe since the moment I tried it!

This Potato Salad is loaded with fresh and crisp cucumber and radishes that make it lighter and supremely satisfying. The creamy dressing has a star ingredient that might surprise you; plain mustard. The flavor is subtle but adding it is GOLD in potato salad.

Make-Ahead Tip: Once this salad is mixed with dressing and salt, it is best enjoyed right away or refrigerated up to 6 hours. You can prep your other ingredients ahead of time and stir in the dressing just before serving.

I have not used cucumbers, I use dry mustard. I also chop up the potatoes in bite size pieces before boiling them, seems to save time later. My garnish is Mrs. Dash garlic, no s/p. I have prepared many of your recipes. Delicious! Thanks for the blog.

I can only eat boiled egg whites if they are very finely chopped. I did them in my mini food processor. Cleaning the kitchen after a meal with potato salad I found my boiled eggs still in the chopper. No one missed them!!! I haven t put eggs in mine since. I have served it to many southern ladies and not one of them missed them. The ladies who asked for my recipe were shocked to find out there were no eggs. Natasha I am excited to make it again and add cucumbers and radishes. Still no eggs tho.

This is the best creamy potato salad for barbeque and grilling, potlucks and as a family favorite, delicious summertime staple. With tender potatoes, crunchy veggies and eggs in a tangy and creamy dressing!

Pair this potato salad with delicious sides like mac and cheese or some skillet corn. Bring it with these other salads like Italian pasta salad, German potato salad, or this bacon ranch pasta salad to your next cookout. You can also have it as a side for sandwiches like this slow cooker BBQ chicken sandwich or some sloppy Joes.

Keep in mind that potato salad and other perishable foods, especially those containing mayonnaise and other dairy products (i.e., coleslaw, egg salad, or macaroni salad), should not be left at room temperature for longer than 2 hours. If the temperature is greater than 90F (32C), the time should be reduced to one hour.

Once potatoes are cool, cut tiny ones into quarters or larger ones into generous chunks. Add to cucumbers and yogurt and stir to coat. Add any extra ingredients desired. Adjust seasonings to taste. Either eat immediately or keep in the fridge for up to three days.

This is very slavic of you and reminds me of a dish that my mom used to make, that my grams had made for my gramps who was from the former Yugoslavia. The potatoes were boiled and peeled, the cucumbers were sliced super thin and the dish was finished with green onions, some kind of vinegar and s&p.

I am seriously yoghurt phobic. Just the smell of it makes me sick. Can I substitute all sour cream? I promise to make it low fat. As a matter of fact, can I substitute sour cream for yoghurt in things that require cooking?

The only time I ever make potato salad anymore is generally for a BIG crowd. I mean 100+ people. Here is my potato boiling tip: before cooking I grade my potatoes into piles according to size: small, medium and large. I start out my cooking with only the largest of potatoes, then after several minutes of cooking I add the mediums and finally I add the smalls a few minutes towards the end.

There can be up to ten minutes in between, depending on the water temp & volume, vs. the amount of potatoes. By doing this, you assure that all potatoes will be done to the same consistency, and avoid having the small ones fall apart or the large ones be too hard in the center!

This sound so awesome! I like the comparison of cucumbers and greek yogurt to edible air conditioning :) and the whole combination with fresh dill added just makes my mouth water. I think potato salad is a totally acceptable lunch! (especially for us gluten-free folks who have to avoid wraps and sandwiches)

This post is a bit of a milestone for me, because I started following you a year ago and made that strawberry cake you mentioned several times. Fun! And I adore tzatziki. This one will make an appearance on my summer table.
