Women have often faced unique experiences and challenges in various areas. Despite many obstacles, women around the world have attained remarkable achievements in the area of the sciences over the past century.   To celebrate women making inroads in the sciences,  the Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS) and the Women's Development Research Centre (KANITA) of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) are proud to jointly organise a  Public Lecture by a noted professor in science, Professor Sonia Aissa.


The programme will take place as follows:


Date: 27 November 2012 (Tuesday)

Time: 9.45 am- 12.30 am

Venue: Dewan Pembangunan Siswa 1, Kompleks Cahaya Siswa, USM, Penang


This half-day event provides a platform for a presentation and discourse on relevant issues and challenges faced by women scientists and women working in science.


Professor Sonia Aissa, is currently a Professor at Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS), University of Quebec, Montreal, Canada. She obtained her Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada, in 1998. With her current focus on cognitive radio networks, she also specialises in wireless communications, including radio resource management, cross-layer design, and cooperative transmission techniques. Professor Sonia Aissa is also the Founding Chair of the Montreal Chapter Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Women in Engineering Society. In addition, she was also a special guest juror for the Stars of Science, a TV programme initiated by the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development that selects 16 young women and men and give them the opportunity to develop their scientific innovations.


The IPS and KANITA therefore seek your cooperation to publicise this Public Lecture to all your colleagues and interested individuals.
