The University of Kansas Enterprise Systems IT Department is hiring a Linux
Systems Administrator and we are looking for candidates that want to work in
a friendly, collaborative, and fast paced atmosphere. Our unit supports
the servers that provide critical services to the University. The ideal
candidate is someone who likes to be challenged, solve problems, and enjoys
helping find new ways to make the current status quo move forward.
Under moderate supervision, this position provides advanced technical
expertise and systems administration tasks working with other members of the
Enterprise Systems team, the manager, and other units as required. Work
with application and service delivery teams to implement and maintain
Linux/UNIX based systems which support delivery of campus and customer IT
services. This individual will also assist project teams with technical solution
creation and planning in the development and implementation of IT projects.

Job Description
|
60% - Technical administration of
Linux/UNIX based Operating Systems and major subsystems:
- Installation of version/release, upgrades/security
patches.
- Application of systems analysis techniques and
procedures, including consulting with users and vendors, to provide
hardware, operating system, or application problem resolution.
- Proactive and emergency maintenance.
- Design, develop solutions, analyze, test, and
implement project related IT systems based on user, team, and system
design specifications.
- Configuration and documentation.
- Capacity planning and performance monitoring.
30% - Technical implementation and
support consultant for Third Party applications and “add ons” in the
Linux/UNIX environment:
- Installation of version/release, upgrades/security
patches.
- Problem resolution.
- Proactive and emergency maintenance.
- Configuration and documentation.
10% - Other:
- Will be part of the on-call rotation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Security Responsibilities
- This position shares in responsibility for
information security by following all applicable security policies and
procedures.
- This position is authorized to use elevated privilege
accounts in the performance of job duties.
- This position is authorized to issue password resets
in accordance with established procedure in the performance of job
duties.
- This position is authorized to handle sensitive or
confidential data in accordance with established procedures in the
performance of job duties.
- This position is authorized to provision and
deprovision user accounts and access in accordance with established
procedures in the performance of job duties.
- This position is authorized to manage, provision, and
deprovision IT assets in accordance with established procedures in the
performance of job duties.

Required Qualifications
|
- Associates degree, and four years of relevant
experience or additional education.
- Two years of administering Linux/UNIX operating
systems and major subsystems in a medium (10+ systems Linux/UNIX
systems).
- One year of experience with automated or remote patching
systems.
- Ability to write shell script in a Linux/UNIX
environment.
- Experience working in a collaborative team
environment 2 or more people.

Preferred Qualifications
|
- One year of experience with Red Hat Linux Satellite
Server.
- One year of experience with running Linux/UNIX in a
virtualized environment.
- One year of experience with automated systems
deployment.
- One year of experience with Enterprise level SAN
Storage >100TB in size.
- One year of experience managing centralized
authentication systems in a Linux/UNIX environment.
- One year of experience authenticating Linux/Unix
systems against an Active Directory environment.
- One year of experience with running Linux/UNIX under
VMWare ESX.
- One year of experience with administrating the
monitoring of Linux/UNIX servers.
- One year of experience of managing remote access to
Linux/UNIX servers and applications.
- Experience in process improvement and/or project
management.
