Recap of Last Meeting


Last meeting were individual committee meetings. If you've missed out do not worry it is never too late to join a committee! Here is a summary of what each committee did:


  • Environmental Preservation (Sara, Lauren)

    • Taking over of Potter Lake Project
    • Communication with field station - another possible invasive tree work day / pot luck
    • ECM compost maintenance


  • Resource Conservation (Celeste, Mitch, Nick)

    • LED Street Lights
      • Signage for light poles have been put up
      • Survey approved and setup, created short URL for it and URL barcode as well
      • Purchased box to hold paper surveys on site
      • Obtained survey lock box to hold completed paper surveys on site
      • Got interviewed by UDK and LJ World, pictures will be taken shortly
      • Chancellor will be visiting site as well with administration
      • Need to finish signage for A-frames, and place them on west campus with all survey items.
      • Need to email departments to bring students, staff and faculty


  • Educational Creative Outreach [ECO] (Monica, Trevor, Mahleea)

    • Facebook
      • Uploaded and organized Environs photos to Facebook

    • Cubicle
      • Helped tidy and cleanup cubicle, thanks!!!


  • Local Food (Kim, Nolan)

    • Finalized plans for our local food at the residence and scholarship halls (going to meet at 4:45 p.m. at Mrs. E's on Wednesday afternoon)
    • Watched clips from local food films and talked about having a local food party on stop day

  3. Take Charge Challenge

    • Help Lawrence/KU compete in the Take Charge Challenge! Save energy, save money, and beat Manhattan/K-State!

      Lawrence and Manhattan are going head-to-head in the Take Charge Challenge this year, and the town that reduces its energy use the most will win an energy efficiency or renewable energy community project worth up to $100,000!

      As a student, YOU can help Lawrence/KU win:

      • Make and report your switch to compact fluorescent bulbs.
      • Enroll in Westar's energy efficiency programs like WattSaver to get a FREE, professionally installed programmable thermostat!
      • Attend a Take Charge! Challenge event or create an event by presenting the Take Charge Challenge Presentation to your student group or class.

  1. Camping Trip & Clinton Lake

    • Come join Environs for a fun camping trip this weekend. Please bring camping supplies, such as a plate with utensils. tent (if you have one), sleeping bag, food/drink to share, and anything else you think you may need. If you have extras of supplies please bring it for those who do not have them. More details will be provided at the Environs meeting.
      • When: Friday, May 6th, 6pm
      • Where: Borders parking lot, downtown (700 New Hampshire Street)

  1. Direct Action & Research Training (DART)

    • The Direct Action & Research Training (DART) Center will be on the KU campus to discuss the field of grassroots community organizing and to discuss a paid position available as an AmeriCorps*VISTA in Lawrence, KS, as well as internship opportunities.

      *Please RSVP if you are interested by contacting Hannah Wittmer at han...@thedartcenter.org or calling 785.841.2680 with your name, phone #, and email address.* (Graduating students will be eligible to apply for the full-time, paid AmeriCorps*VISTA position. Those not graduating are encouraged to attend to learn more about community organizing, and to remain eligible for a fall internship with DART.)

      • When: Wednesday, May 4th, 4pm - 5pm
      • Where: UCC Workshop Room, 149 Burge Union (located on the lower level)
