Recap
of Last Meeting
Last meeting were individual committee meetings. If you've missed
out do not worry it is never too late to join a committee! Here is a
summary of what each committee did:
Environmental Preservation(Sara,
Lauren)
Haskell Wetlands Eco-Walk
Work days! Specific dates to be determined.
KU Field Station
A meeting in the near future with our man Vaughn at
the KU Field Station to better introduce anyone
unfamiliar to the area, as well as figure out which
projects they may need our help with
Film Showing
Potential documentary screening (strategically planned
so as not to compete with King Corn)
Talk to friends/do some google searching so we can
start a little list of possible films
Resource Conservation(Celeste, Mitch,
Nick)
Cycling Week
Week of events to promote cycling and cycling safety
Need advertising for event (Buses, KJHK, UDK, SUA,
Facebook, flyers, and chalking)
Look into University policy on having vendors show
their products on campus.
Get room reservations and fill out UEC (University
Events Committee) forms.
Setup partnership for event with KU Cycling Club,
Public Safety Office, City of Lawrence, KU Center for
Sustainability and the Lawrence Bike Club.
Create list of bike or bike supply companies and
contact them.
LED Street Lights
Environs, SEAB
and DCM took a
fieldtrip Thursday night to the Leavenworth Wal-mart to
see their LED parking lot lights.
Compared them to the lights at Park & Ride on the
KU west campus.
Demo being setup for west campus for potential
creation of new KU outdoor lighting standard.
Colored them, but they must now be copied, laminated,
and posted around campus and in the buses.
Earth Day Parade Float
Discussed possible ideas.
Decided to go with a smaller trailer this year pulled
by bikers to see how it goes.
We have decided on the float size, so now we need to
discuss possible themes.
Camping Trip
The weather is starting to change and it would be nice
to organize a camping trip soon so if we get time we
will discuss possibilities for that as well!
Wetland Learners
Next meeting we hope Sandy Sanders or her intern will
be able to come in and speak to us about Wetland
Learners to give everyone a better idea of what to start
planning as far as a 20 minute activity goes.
Environs T-Shirt Designs
Next meeting we also need to start discussing T-shirt
designs/ideas.
We have decided to turn the designing process into a
contest to get everyone motivated to get a new t-shirt
out!
Start thinking of some ideas now.
Local Food(Kim, Nolan)
King Corn Film
Showing
March 28th @ 7:00 @ Liberty Hall?
Contacting businesses for donations for the door
prizes/raffle.
Contacting for rights and looking for funding.

to table before Spring Break.

Still not sure what we want to do with this, but it
sounds fun!

Take Charge Challenge
Help
Lawrence/KU compete in the Take Charge Challenge! Save
energy, save money, and beat Manhattan/K-State!
Lawrence and Manhattan are going head-to-head in the Take
Charge Challenge this year, and the town that reduces its
energy use the most will win an energy efficiency or
renewable energy community project worth up to $100,000!
As a student, YOU can help Lawrence/KU win:
Make and report your switch
to compact fluorescent bulbs.
Enroll in Westar's energy efficiency
programs like WattSaver
to get a FREE, professionally installed programmable
thermostat!
Attend a Take Charge! Challenge event or
create an event by presenting the Take
Charge Challenge Presentation to your student
group or class.
