Google launched Google Voice in 2009. Describe google voice and how it works. What is Youtube and why is it much popular than Google Voice.

Google Voice is supposed to be a hub for your phone numbers, voicemail, etc. that is really more competition for Microsoft owned Skype than YouTube. Google Voice offers consumers one phone number that ties all of your numbers into one account, that does not change, even if you change cell carriers.Other features include: voicemail sharing and transcription, personalized greetings, free domestic long-distance, international calling, SMS and SMS to email, block and screen callers, mobile app and conference-calling. YouTube, established in the beginning as a hub to upload and share Flash technology video and audio files. It was bought by Google in 2006. It has been more popular quite simply because it is an established service that caught on with younger consumers and later because of their partnerships with large corporations like CBS and HULU has helped Google dominate the internet.

My perspective on why Google Voice did not work as well as Youtube is because of innovation. At the time Youtube was created, it was new and innovative. No one had really created a online video service where anyone could upload a video and share it with anyone else yet,

However Google Voice already had been done before. Many other phone companies in 2009 already offered most of the features that Google Voice did, which means that Google Voice was just another option to choose from instead a a mostly new idea.

What do you think, are there other reasons that could be behind the difference in popularity?

I learned that Google voice is a telecommunications service.  It provides a U.S. phone number free of charge to the user.  Google Voice works phones to lets you define which phone will ring bases on who is calling and lets you listen to on voicemail before answering the call.  It is only available in the U.S. This information was retrieved from https://support.google.com/voice/answer/115061?hl=en

I learned that YouTube was launched in May 2005.  This may one reason it is more popular then Google Voice because it has been around longer.  You tube is a video-sharing website that has become an online public communication site and now operates as one of Google’s subsidiaries.

Google Voice is a free service that aims to help users manage all of their communication needs through a single phone number – users can now control where and how their friends, family, and associates contact them. Users can manage all their voice features online. Subscribers set up service through www.google.com/voice. When a contact calls the subscriber it rings their home, mobile, work, or any number that they have assigned.Google Voice is now integrated with Google Hangouts, so people can now use it to make voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) calls. YouTube is a video web site launched in 2005. It allows people to watch, share, and post videos. I think YouTube is more popular for a couple reasons. One is that there are many more voice applications in the market for people to choose from. YouTube appeals to those who like to create their own content and post it. It provides many ways for people to use video content. Businesses use YouTube to post product commercials and demos. Individuals use YouTube to post their own videos of themselves. YouTube has really helped to connect people socially and I believe is a predecessor to social media as we know it today.

Google Voice works with mobile phones, desk phones, work phones, and VoIP lines. There's nothing to download, upload, or install, and you don't have to make or take calls using a computer.
