I have a Kindle Paperwhite and I've downloaded Adobe Digital Editions onto my Mac to be able to read an eBook I borrowed from my library. I'm using the latest version 4.5.11 and have authorised my computer. When I connect my Kindle via USB and open Digital Editions my device does not appear. No combination of plugging/unplugging/restarting/opening/closing gets this to work. Very frustrating as this is the only way for me to read eBooks from my library!

Did you ever get an answer, or find a solution here or elsewhere? I'm struggling with the same problem with both Kindle Reader and a Kindle Fire. There doesn't seem to be any support or useful troubleshooting information.

I ran into this same situation. My goal was simply to get an epub from the library onto my Kindle Paperwhite. What ended up working finally was skipping Adobe Digital Editions entirely and using Amazon's "send to Kindle" service: No extra software, no cables; just drag and drop and wait for Kindle to sync. It may not work for all situations and people, but I thought I'd share in case it's helpful to someone.

This wasn't working for me either no matter what I tried. In the end I used my adobe ID to deDRM the file and added it to kindle using calibre. This is the plugin I added to calibre to do this: _tools/releases/download/v10.0.9/DeDRM_tools_10.0.9.zip

Once added I went into the customize plugin options in calibre and added the adobe key, after which I was able to add the book to calibre. Since calibre was able to detect my kindle it wasn't an issue, but you could also send it manually using amazon.com/sendtokindle

Hello. I've tried this but cannot figure out what the Adobe key is and how to enter it for this Obok plugin in Calibre. Besides, it seems that this plugin is for Kobo. Could you clarify the steps and inputs for me? I'd really appreciate it because I really want to utilize and enjoy my Kindle at this point.

I'm looking to create a script for my 80-year old grandmother that downloads the books she needs, and converts them using the command-line version of Calibre, to kindle format so she can read them on her kindle. She gets a lot of her books from a service in the form of Adobe .epub books. AFAIK, none of these books have DRM on them prior to being converted, so let me be clear - I'm not asking how to strip DRM from an ebook.

What I am asking is whether there is a way to programmatically (from the command line is fine if Adobe Digital Editions supports CL args) use the ticket file to request a book from the library, and download it, in .epub form, to the local hard drive. I simply don't want my grandmother to have to go through all of the unneeded screens in Adobe Digital Editions' interface - she gets confused easily, and the interface tends to be overwhelming for her. I simply want to write a function (it can be a system() call to a command... that's fine) that will allow her to take a file received from the library or digital service and automatically retrieve the proper .epub file.

Kindle and Adobe Digital Editions: one is the most popular ebook reader, while the other is the best Adobe PDF and EPUB ebook reading app. So, can we switch from one to the other? Like reading Kindle books on Adobe Digital Editions and transferring Adobe Digital Editions EPUB or PDF to Kindle?

Sure, we can definitely read Kindle books on Adobe if we convert Kindle to Adobe-supported formats. Conversely, we can also convert Adobe Digital Editions to kindle. In the following post, I will show you how to get ebooks from Kindle to Adobe Digital Editions and from Adobe Digital Editions to Kindle.

From the above information, it's evident that Kindle books are not compatible with Adobe Digital Editions due to differences in eBook format and DRM type. Similarly, for Kindle devices, you cannot directly transfer Adobe DRM-protected EPUB or PDF files because they cannot properly read these types of ebooks.

In the following parts, I will guide you through the process of converting Kindle books to Adobe Digital Editions supported formats, as well as converting Adobe Digital Editions ebooks to Kindle format.

Please note that all kindle books are protected by kindle DRM which means they only can be open and read on Amazon kindle compatible devices/app, such as kindle eReader, kindle app and kindle fire. Therefore, before converting kindle to adobe supported format, we need to remove kindle DRM from Kindle books with Epubor Ultimate.

You can just click "convert to azw3" to convert Adobe EPUB or PDF to kindle format and then sideload them to Kindle device via USB. But you can also let it along with epub or pdf format, and then use the 'Send to kindle by web' to send the Adobe Digital Editions pdf/epub to kindle device.

A: Adobe Digital Editions only recognizes devices that support Adobe DRM, such as Kobo, Sony, and Nook. That's why the Kindle doesn't appear in Adobe Digital Editions. To transfer books from Adobe Digital Editions to Kindle, you should remove Adobe DRM first and then send the Adobe files to the Kindle.

A: It would be much easier if you could choose Kindle as the target device in your library app. However, you can still use the method mentioned above to download your library books via Adobe Digital Editions and then transfer them to a Kindle device.

All OverDrive and cloudLibrary titles are automatically returned to your library at the end of their lending periods, so you never have to worry about late fees. However you can return them early if you want.

For instructions on removing returned titles from an eReader device or your computer using Adobe Digital Editions see -how-to-return-or-delete-titles-from-a-device-or-computer-using-adobe-digital-editions

eBooks downloaded to Adobe Digital Editions will remain on your computer or device until they are manually deleted. Once the lending period has expired, you can no longer read the book but the title will still be visible in ADE.

The Internet Archive and participating libraries have selected digitized books from their collections that are available to be borrowed by one patron at a time from anywhere in the world for free. These books are available in BookReader format and usually in PDF and ePub formats. You can choose which format you prefer.

BookReader editions may be read online immediately in your web browser. No special software is required. Other Internet Archive loans are managed through Adobe Digital Editions and will require software installation on your device.

Internet Archive offers borrowable books in BookReader, PDF and ePub formats. BookReader editions may be read online immediately in any web browser on any device. Downloadable eBooks are readable in Adobe Digital Editions and some other software applications.

Sometimes. If you borrowed a BookReader edition, simply return it from your Loans page.

If you downloaded another type of ebook, you can return it if you borrowed it through Adobe Digital Editions for all versions except the iPad version. If you checked out your book with other software like Bluefire Reader, you will not be able to return your book early.

In Adobe Digital Editions, look for your "library". That's the book spines icon in the top left corner of the application (1). Once you're in your library, click on the menu for the book you'd like to return which is behind the tiny triangle that appears by the book cover (2) and select "Return Borrowed Item" from the menu (3). This image will show you where to look.

You may also be able to right-click on your item and select "Return Borrowed Item" from the contextual menu. Here is a screenshot of this option.

If you used other software to access your book, you can't return it early but the item will be automatically returned at the end of the loan period.

Yes! There is a waiting list feature. If you see a book that is checked out, you have an option to add yourself to a waiting list for that book. When the book is returned and available, you will get an email. You then have 24 hours to check the book out. If you do not check out the book before the 24 hours is up, it will be made available to the next person on the list.

You can download Adobe Digital Editions from adobe.com. It's free. If you use other ebook reader software it must be Adobe compliant and you will still need an Adobe ID. You can get one online here. An older version of Adobe Digital Editions can be found at this link.

The first time you run Adobe Digital Editions, it will prompt you for authorization. This is completely optional and is not linked to your Open Library ID. Click the "create an Adobe ID" link next to the eBook vendor line (which should remain set on "Adobe ID"). You can authorize your computer at a later date by going under the Help menu of ADE and selecting the "Authorize computer..." option.

Yes!

New: Adobe Digital Editions is now available for Ipad.

You can read our books using our BookReader via your browser or by using an ebook app like Bluefire Reader or Aldiko Book Reader. Before you start, register an Adobe ID. You'll need to do this once. If you don't have one, create one at this page.

Here are step-by-step instructions for Aldiko Reader

1. Download and install Aldiko Book Reader from Google Play Store.
2. Open Aldiko, Select Other Catalogs under the Get Books section of the menu.
3. Select My Catalogs at the top and tap New Catalog on the green bar at the top.
4. Create an entry for the Open Library using openlibrary.org for the URL. Tap on the library and sign in.
5. When you have found a book you like, check it out. When the next screen comes up, select the pdf or epub version. You will then be prompted to enter your Adobe id and password. Your book will then download into Aldiko and you can open it and read it at your leisure. The only downside to this process is that books can not be returned early via non-Adobe applications, so you'll just have to let them expire or we can return them early if you need to free up space on your loans list.
