network manager not working

dear friend,

       i newlly installed ubuntu 11.04 but i think network manager not installed corectly.network maneger is showing disable so i not can update any  programme and i not can use internet.and i cant se any update because internet not can i use.

       so any body  can hellp me.

If you a dual-boothin with a diff OS, does the connection work on it?
Have you configured the same present settings on the Linux part & tried ?
