Adobe doesn't manage Java. If it's a Java applet, try using Sun's Java.

Flash and Java are indeed different plugins, but don't advice people to
use Oracle's Java. While it probably works better in some situations,
Ubuntu doesn't support it anymore.
See: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Java#Oracle_.28Sun.29_Java_6
What I can't find in that article is the method to install the
currently* supported JRE:
# apt-get install default-jre

(Oh, and for the love of God, don't top-post on a mailinglist.)

* Ubuntu devs regularly change their mind.

If open-jre is installing but not getting set as your default, then you need to;
sudo update-alternatives --config java
Then pick the open-jdk

(And just for you, I took the extra effort to scroll down past all
this stuff and bottom post. Now nobody will be able to read my
response in their preview pane. Happy now? Message threading makes
this form of communication outdated, a relic of the old days, as
outdated as Sun-Java6. ;p )

Except when you alternate remarks and responses as I'm doing here. Something
the typical Windows user has no concept of.

Some people seem to never use them.

Don't know if he is happy but the users of the maillist are! Thank you for
maturing just a little.
