Hi,

I'm working on adding dedicated KubeVirt dashboards to the OCP UI.
Please add a new repository by the name "monitoring"  to KubeVirt, that will be a dedicated repository for the KubeVirt monitoring.

Best regards,

Can these dashboards somehow be used from plain k8s? Is that planned?

Hi Shirly,

I was too quick, I wanted to create a repo for that directly, but then I remembered that we have peribolos in place which will take care of creating the repo. I'll get back to you when I have the PR to create the repo ready.

Thanks!

Daniel

Hi Roman,

I had to do some investigation.
Currently the dashboards that we generate will be visible in the OKD/OCP UI automatically after installing OpenShift Virtualization.
In KubeVirt/Kubernetes from what I understand we should upload the basic JSON files to Grafana Labs and the users can then grab them and import them manually.

Best,
Shirly

Just to be clear, the focus should be that the data we provide in this repository is consumable with grafana and prometheus by default.
Any mangling for any other product is a second thing.
We must not accept any PR that is adding a specific data for a specific product out there.

Hello hello 👋,

Good to see this moving forward! I see that this new repo is focused on Prometheus+Grafana monitoring, so what instantly came to my mind was Monitoring Mixins. Following Red Hat's blog, Openshift has been heads-down on Prometheus Mixins since version 3.11. Of course, it requires some prior knowledge on jsonnet, but that is my friendly suggestion for the future of this repository 😊, to build KubeVirt mixins instead of plain dashboard JSON files.

Kind regards,
Arthur

Hi,

We are working with the Grafana Json files since this is what we consume, but we are open for contributions of mixins.

Best,
Shirly

Hi,

Will those dashboards contain both the KubeVirt system components and the VM metrics?

Currently, I am working on exposing metrics via Prometheus on kubevirtci clusters to provide a holistic view of the infrastructure and e2e test runs in our CI environment.

Therefore, it would be nice to be able to use those Grafana dashboards in plain Kubernetes. Most especially the ones showing the KubeVirt system components metrics.

Kind regards,
Marcelo
