This is a GREAT TIME to submit VEPs for v1.8!

Hey all!

Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone for submitting, reviewing and implementing VEPs. I think that the VEP process, although young and new, already provides a great value. That's thanks to you all, so thank you very much for making it happen!

However, as said, the process is still new and we can do a lot to improve.

One issue that was recently raised is that VEPs proposals and implementation PRs are popping up late. In order to essure VEPs are not being deferred to next release it is essential they'd be submitted as soon as possible, hopefully before VEP planning and definitely not after it. Not only that VEPs or implementation PRs that are submitted late cause an unpredictable pressure on reviewers, but also it forces the review process to become shorter, hence the confidence in the feature's maturity becomes lower. This means that late VEPs would be promoted on a best-effort basis.

The best time to submit new VEPs is NOW!

This way you as a VEP owner could have enough time to both assign proper reviewers and approvers, and to gain wide feedback. To serve as an example, I've just submitted VEP 104, targeted for v1.8.
