Feature: Copy-on-Write Containerdisk

Hello everyone,

 

Thank you for all the hard work you’ve put into Kubevirt. We’re using it in our software solution quite successfully.

 

In order to reduce both disk latency and size of our persistent windows VMs however, I was looking for a solution upstream and discovered the long abandoned https://github.com/kubevirt/kubevirt/pull/3970

 

Within a few days, as I’m working on this in a commercial capacity, I was able to rebase and extend (added snapshot & restore) the functionality onto the current stable 1.6 branch. It looks to be working for our purpose, thus I have to move on.

 

My work is located at https://github.com/mng-stark/kubevirt/tree/feature/delta-cow and I’m offering it to the Public Domain in the hopes that someone can apply the finishing touches and add tests in order to pass the PR requirements in Kubevirt.
