Hi KubeVirt community members,

I want to check whether we know the ETA for QEMU 10.2 RPM to be published to CentOS Stream 9? We would need QEMU v10.2 to be able to provide HyperV-based VMIs.

The current RPM version on CentOS Stream 9 repo is 10.1.0.

I had another related question - for which KV release is the migration from CentOS Stream 9 to 10 planned?

Thanking you,

Hi Harshit,

I'm not sure when QEMU 10.2 will be available. +Andrea Bolognani I wonder if you can assist, please.
On the other hand, @Lee Yarwood has a PR to add CentOS 10 support - that is still work in progress.

Thanks,
Vladik

QEMU 10.2 is not coming to CentOS Stream 9, ever.

I'm not aware of any specific ETA for the availability of QEMU 10.2
in CentOS Stream 10. I'll keep you posted as I learn more.

Thanks a lot for clarifying, Andrea.
The timing is quite critical in the present scenario for enabling KubeVirt support for MSHV hypervisor in the upcoming v1.8 release.
QEMU 10.2 contains MSHV support, and it needs to be available in CentOS for upstream KubeVirt to be able to test it. Please keep me posted with any new information you gather in this regard.

Thanking you,

Harshit,

Given this is for an Alpha feature in v1.8.0 would you be interested
in consuming these bits from the virt-preview repo if we can provide
CentOS Stream 10 builds with
https://github.com/kubevirt/kubevirt/pull/16582 ?

Regards,

Lee

Hi Lee,

Sorry for not responding sooner.
Although I have only been testing the Multi Hypervisor support in KubeVirt by using CS 9 images, I think the virt-preview repo should be absolutely fine.

As far as I understand, the changes proposed by the PR you linked above will make it quite easy to integrate CS 10 builds into the automation/test.sh script.
What is the expected timeline for the PR to add CS 10 build support? And can you share a link to the virt-preview repo so that I can look at the other packages there?

Thanking you,

Lee Yarwood

Hey Harshit,

https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/virtmaint-sig/virt-preview/

The CS10 PR and overall dual version build support is still being
discussed and might not land during the v1.8.0 cycle.

That said you should be able to use the virt-preview repo without
changes with CS9:

https://github.com/kubevirt/kubevirt/blob/d6b96018473fd5ee559b4f17a244dbd04af4b0fc/docs/custom-rpms.md

I'll give this a go on Monday with CS9 and my CS10 branch.

Cheers,

Lee
