Using Preemptible VM Instances for Kubernetes

Hello -

When I try to create a container cluster. gcloud does not like it. Is there any plan to support preemptible VM instances for container clusters?

gcloud container clusters create --preemptible

"gcloud container clusters create" does not currently support preemptible VMs.

I would love to have that option too, maybe having as the option to create extra node pools only

It can be useful to run the slaves instances as preemptible so the controller will just light other preemptible instances back when they go down. And since it is super cheap I can have use higher redundancy factor.

Supporting secondary preepmtible pools would be a _fantastic_ improvement. We have developed an in-house "run jobs on [preemptible] vms" system based on duct tape. We need preemptible vms to keep batch job costs under control. We'd love to scrap it and move the workloads to GKE instead.

Support for preemptible VMs in GKE was just added (see the October 17, 2016 release notes).
