Hello,

I'm new to kubernetes and was wondering if it is possible to use kubernetes to deploy an OpenStack Control plane and also use it to deploy containers within from multiple tenants in the user plane?
There are many examples of deploying OpenStack services in containers using Kubernetes. Once we have an Openstack containerized control plane up and running, how would one go about deploying kubernetes in the user plane for tenants to deploy containers. Could Magnum be used for the tenant apps? If so, are there any issues with the kubernetes cluster running inside the bays and how it works with kubernetes in the underlay. What are the challenges/issues with this or other such deployments.

Thanks,
ST

Hi,

(Insert vendor _and_  self-plug warning)

IHAC that did exactly this. This was (partly) presented at the OpenStack Summit in Barcelona. YouTube video detailing the setup + demo here, blog post going (a bit...) into networking details here

That work has since progressed with the addition of K8S network policies in v1.3, use of K8S HA masters, "smart" network policy correlation between K8S and OpenStack etc.

I've just submitted this as a talk proposal for KubeCon Europe to talk about this "advanced" topics, but happy to talk about it as well if needed (it's still WIP, btw)

Just contact me off-group and happy to provide more details if needed.

HTH for now,

/Florian
