Hi all -

At KubeCon and on a sig call recently, the possibility of having our 2nd face to face was brought up (our last was late April 2017).  It was mentioned that as a WG, we are planning to graduate many of our initial scope features out of alpha with the 1.10 release.  This meant that maybe the best time for us to meet would be during 1.11 planning.

I believe we'd have enough topics to full a 1.5-2 day agenda.  What is the feeling about this?  Would the last week of March work?

Hi Jeremy,

I would love to come again, but hope we could make it so not in conflict with GPU Tech Conference which happen on 3/26-29 , 2018.

Most of the peeps that work on GPU accelerators and device plugins, especially from NVIDIA, will probably have conflict.

+1. Last time around Derek and I spent a lot of time prepping for the Meetup. It would be helpful if we can identify an agenda and owners for each agenda item, and have them prep and share design docs to make the Meetup worth everyone's time. I'd recommend getting started on that while the schedule and location is sorted out.

I think outlining an agenda and relative priorities would be
fruitful, then shake out times from there.

Hey Viraj,

Great to hear Nvidia can host.
We haven't decided on a geographical location yet. The current proposal is to decide that based participants.
So can u add the list of Nvidia participants tobthe doc with their locations?

Jeremy, can we aim to close on the date and location during next week's meeting?

Indeed, thank you very much Viraj!

Yes, I think Feb 14th (by our next WG meeting) sounds reasonable to have collected opinions.

I created a survey with the two options suggested as of now:
1) March 29-30 NVIDIA HQ, California, US
2) April 30-May 1 KubeCon EU, CopenHagen, Denmark

Please fill out this Doodle if you're sure you can attend (one/both of the options work for you, and you have confirmed travel budget).

- To spread out the technical prep work, the doc has a "Topic Owners" section w/responsibilities.  This is to keep the meeting to be as productive as possible, and allow attendees to prepare themselves by doing pre-meeting reviews.

- When filling out the agenda, I put some names in the Owners column.  Apologies if they're wrong!  If you can't commit to it, perhaps you can suggest a replacement person or strike the item entirely.  Also feel free to add new items.

As far as where to hold a meetup, Vish suggested we see if there's a center of gravity for where people are located.  I've created a table in the doc for that.  Please enter your details *if and only if* you are able to attend.

And as far as dates...I guess that could depend on folks locations, so let's start with filling out the table.

Based on the Doodle results, the decision is to hold our next face to face at the NVIDIA HQ in Santa Clara, CA on March 29 and 30.

We should have further logistical details (as far as times and specific building locations) over the next few weeks and we'll update this thread as well as the google doc.

Special thanks to Viraj + NVIDIA for offering to host the community!

Hi all -- quick summary of what to expect over the next 4 weeks:

Feb 28:  Finalized agenda items.  I've tagged individual topic owners to see if they think their row is still valid.
Mar 14:  Finalized topic write-ups, linked in your respective row+cell of the agenda doc [1]
Mar 28:  Derek, thoughts about canceling this call due to the f2f starting on the 29th?

Couple thoughts about the google doc topic write-ups themselves...
- Write-up should be in Google Docs format, give "comment permissions" to the kubernetes-dev mailing list.
- No need to wait until the 14th.  If you have something now, please link it.
- To keep conversations focused and make best use of limited time, consider a section in your write-up for asks/questions/specific decisions or guidance you require.

It would be really great if it will be way to participate in f2f remotely. Will it be possible to get zoom meeting (video/audio/screen sharing) running during whole f2f ?

Hi all --

We've arrived at a final list of topics and put together an agenda that we think we can reasonably tackle over the two days:

These topics have significant upfront design/POC work to support meaningful conversations, that hopefully lead to specific directional/conceptual decisions.  Same as last year, we're not intending to get into the lowest level details unless absolutely necessary (that's what the bi-weekly calls, mailing list and slack are for).

One thing that Vish mentioned on the last call that I wanted to reiterate:  If you cannot make this trip, there will be copious notes taken.  There is still a possibility that we will stream these f2f meetings.  And there may be some adhoc meetings at KubeCon/Copenhagen in May.

P.S. We are meeting next Wednesday March 14, and by then we hope that topic owners will have added links to their google docs to the agenda doc.
