Hello,

I want to ask for a call for an exception regarding the code freeze date. The memory manager KEP already merged and the PR also waiting for the final review, but just to be sure that we will have enough time to get all approvals I want to have a couple of days in the backup.

Enhancement name: Memory Manager

Enhancement status (alpha/beta/stable): alpha

SIG: sig-node

k/enhancements repo issue #: 81009

PR #’s: 95479

Additional time needed (in days): 7 days

Reason this enhancement is critical for this milestone: The memory manager should provide important improvement for the resource management regarding the memory and hugepages. The feature can be relevant for performance workloads, as DPDK usage(needed for a telco) or databases.

Risks from adding code late: none - the memory manager is an alpha feature so it will be placed under the feature gate also the code has been tested via unittests and e2e tests.

Risks from cutting enhancement: critical customer use case.

Best regards,

Artyom Lukianov

Hello Artyom,

Thank you for submitting this exception request.

First off, I wanted to say thank you for proactively reaching out to open this ahead of code freeze. This gave us some time to dig in and evaluate the exception before the freeze hit. This was very helpful.  I also wanted to say thank you to the team working on this Enhancement, Kirsten (1.20 enhancements lead) mentioned that you all have been very responsive during the release, so thanks for that as well!

After discussing this with Kirsten and Derek, we will APPROVE this exception. I would like to ask you to please have the PR merged as soon as possible. The sooner that we can get this in, the better things will be, especially with KubeCon next week.  It looks like Kevin Klues has been giving it a pretty in depth review and it looks like you're pretty close to merging now.
