- Reason this enhancement is critical for this milestone: This is a simple beta promotion - the feature (an optional mode field on EmptyDir volumes) shipped as alpha in v1.37 with no bugs reported. The only remaining work is getting the KEP PR reviewed and approved. The PR received initial review with non-blocking comments requesting clarifications to the test plan section and minor formatting fixes, which are currently being addressed.
- Risks from adding code late: Low. The implementation code is already merged and has been shipping since v1.37. No new code changes are needed - this is purely a KEP metadata update for beta promotion (enabling the feature gate by default).
- Risks from cutting enhancement: Beta promotion would be delayed to v1.39. The feature will remain alpha for another release cycle.
