Enhancement name: Report last used time on a PVC (PersistentVolumeClaimUnusedSinceTime)
Enhancement status: beta
SIG: sig-storage
k/enhancements repo issue #: https://github.com/kubernetes/enhancements/issues/5541
PR #'s:
Additional time needed (in calendar days): 2 (AoE Time)
Reason this enhancement is critical for this milestone: The beta criteria are essentially met. The reviewer requested upgrade/downgrade tests, scalability tests, and E2E tests before merging the KEP PR - all of which have been addressed and are under review. The additional time is needed to accommodate timezone differences between the author and reviewers to complete the review cycle.
Risks from adding code late: Very low. The feature gate promotion is a single-line change (Alpha→Beta). The E2E tests are additive only. No changes to core APIs, controllers, or runtime behavior. This is a low-risk feature with a small, well-understood surface area - there is no reason to suspect any issues from merging it at this stage.
Risks from cutting enhancement: Postponing is unnecessary given the low risk profile. The feature was alpha in v1.36 with no reported issues. PVC last-used tracking has been a long-standing user request. Cutting it means another release cycle where users must rely on external tooling or manual auditing to identify unused PVCs in large clusters, despite the feature being ready.
