Hello SIG Auth community,
As many of you know, our SIG is responsible for many of the security critical features of the Kubernetes project. Therefore, it can be hard to get involved with the SIG, as the bar is set very high. With that in mind, and to help the SIG grow and remain healthy over time, we are proposing the following leadership changes.
From me, Mike Danese, in my own words:
It’s pretty surreal to look back at my time working on Kubernetes. I sent my first PR in 2014 to fix a Docker credential issue. Then over the following 11 years, we built something that transformed the industry. Among all the SIGs (in my very biased opinion), SIG Auth has always upheld the highest standards and fostered a community that has consistently produced outstanding and impactful work. I’m incredibly proud to have been a part of it but now it’s time for me to move on to new pursuits. As I step down as SIG Auth Chair, I am honored to nominate Micah Hausler as my replacement. Micah has been a staple of the community, and has demonstrated deep knowledge of Kubernetes security and a commitment to the SIG. He is an excellent choice for this role.
From Mo Khan, in his own words:
I started contributing to Kubernetes in 2016. Two years after that I was given the opportunity to become a chair for SIG Auth. I certainly grew into the role and have learned a lot. Five years later I became a tech lead as well. I believe now is a good time to hand off my responsibilities as chair so that others may benefit from that opportunity as well. Therefore, I plan to step down as chair and nominate Anish Ramasekar as a new chair for SIG Auth. Anish has been deeply involved in the SIG for many years now. Among other things, he has been the sub project lead for secret store CSI and has authored/implemented multiple KEPs such as KMSv2, structured authentication config, etc. I believe he will serve as an excellent chair for the SIG. I will continue as a tech lead for the SIG.
After the above changes go into effect, the new leadership for the SIG will be as follows:
Chairs:
Rita Zhang, Microsoft
Anish Ramasekar, Microsoft
Micah Hausler, AWS
Tech Leads:
Jordan Liggitt, Google
David Eads, Red Hat
Mo Khan, Microsoft
Emeritus:
Mike Danese
We will follow the standard process of lazy consensus, and will make these changes official via updates to the k/community repo in two weeks time. If anyone wishes to discuss any concerns in private with the existing leads, please free to email the SIG Auth leads mailing list (cc’d on this email).
Thanks,
Mike, Mo, Rita, Jordan, David
