Heartfelt Remembrance for Peeyush Gupta (pensu)

It saddens me to have to write this, but on May 25th we lost a friend and member of our community, Peeyush Gupta (GitHub: pensu[1], Slack: pensu91) to complications with covid.

Peeyush started his journey into the Cloud Native world with us in 2019, and has been actively involved in SIG ContribEx and the Release Team, serving as the Lead for the 1.22 Comms team. He was passionate about expanding our community into more APAC regions; always being one of the first people to engage and guide those who reached out in the “off hours”. He will be remembered as a friend, a teacher, and a loving father.

Peeyush's contributions and impact will continue to be felt in the communities he helped build. Here is his Kubernetes contributor journey in his own words [2].

We have started to collect some of our thoughts and memories in the CNCF memorials repo[3]. If you would like to share some of your own stories and memories of Peeyush please go ahead and open a PR or share them with us here in this thread.

We are working with Digital Ocean (his employer)  on ways to reach out and help his family, we should have more information later this week. Please contact me or any of the steering folks[4] if you wish to participate in remembering Peeyush.

Can't believe he's gone. He was such a friendly face in SIG Contribex. Very hard to think of a contributor marketing team without him.

I was gobsmacked by the news. The impact Peeyush has had in the community is a large one. It's not possible to sit down and look at GitHub to capture Peeyush's work. It extended into so much more than code.

Rest easy, my friend.

I was shocked when I heard this news. He was my teammate @ IBM for a couple of years, he was a great team player and a friendly guy. I'm going to miss him for sure :( RIP
