Following the results of the 2021 Kubernetes Steering Committee election, I’m in the position of Paris Pittman before me where a standing member of the Code of Conduct Committee is elected to the Steering Committee. As described in https://github.com/kubernetes/steering/issues/221 this presents a type of conflict of interest, resolution of which we’re now formalizing (see issue and associated PRs). In the meantime, we do have a practice of an individual elected to these two committees choosing the one on which they will continue and stepping down from the other, with the resulting vacancy filled as per normal vacancies which might arise in the given body. In keeping with that practice, I’ve vacated my seat on the Code of Conduct Committee. Carlos Panato was the nominee next in line from the prior Code of Conduct Committee election and will serve out the remaining ~10months of my Code of Conduct Committee term.
I will take from my time on the Code of Conduct Committee, which serves a critical, independent, and yet often undervalued role in project health and safety, an ethos which I expect deeply informs my understanding of Steering’s chartered role in defining, evolving and defending the values of the project. Thank you all for the trust you place in me and my peers serving on both of these committees!
