I've been thinking about some of the poor interactions between field immutability and declarative reconciliation flows, especially in light of the desire to add this capability to custom resources.

I've written down some thoughts and recommendations at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZpCHE4yrOXoawai8Ldz49A4t9ni-QsHSuoy71VhBTLw/edit, if anyone wants to take a look. Comments are welcome. I plan to fold some of the recommendations back into issues / docs after getting some feedback.
