Kubeflow 1.6.1 PATCH Release

Hello Kubeflow Community,

Community members have identified severe regression with the 1.6 release that meets the requirement for a patch release.

The release team is aiming to have a patch released by Oct 3rd.

We ask all WGs and the community to identify and fix any issues that you like to include in the patch release by the 30th and provide the release team with a new release by Friday, Sept 30th. We are tracking the 1.6.1 issues in the 1.6 tracking issue.

So far, the release team is tracking three issues:

• Notebook: https://github.com/kubeflow/kubeflow/issues/6648
  
• Pipeline: https://github.com/kubeflow/pipelines/issues/8256
• Manifest: Issue with load balancer for ingress gateway (issue being created by Suraj)

As the issues are fixed, the release team will provide a 1.6.1 RC and aim for the final 1.6.1 on Oct 3rd.

Hello Kubeflow Community,

The release team is happy to announce that 1.6.1-rc.0 is now available!

The 1.6.1 patch RC includes fixes for the following issues from the Notebook, Pipelines, and Manifest WGs

• Notebook controller constantly culling every notebook
• Pipelines "Unknown execution spec" error
• Manifest Istio configuration patch

As mentioned in the previous announcement of the 1.6.1 planning, we hope to have the final 1.6.1 release on Oct 3rd.

We hope the community can help in testing out the RC and if you identify any issues, please comment on the 1.6 tracking issue. Friendly reminder that the release team will only consider severe/critical bug fixes for 1.6 and any other issues should be part of the next 1.7 release.
