Daisuke Aoyama has announced the release of FreeNAS 0.7.1, a FreeBSD-based operating system which provides free Network-Attached Storage (NAS) services: The FreeNAS Development Team is pleased to announce the availability of FreeNAS 0.7.1. This is a maintenance release of FreeNAS 0.7. It improves the functions and the translations of WebGUI. Also it introduces a few new features. New features: AIO (asynchronous I/O) support in CIFS/SMB - Samba; ATAPI CAM with iSCSI target (device pass-through); custom script in Email Report; serial console support for headless servers/devices; a raw device, ZFS volume for the extent of iSCSI target; iSCSI removable device and control (DVD/tape emulation). Upgrade notes: before upgrade you must always backup your configuration file, your system disk and all your data." Read the rest of the release announcement which include detailed release notes. Download: FreeNAS-i386-LiveCD-0.7.1.iso (72.0MB, SHA256), FreeNAS-amd64-LiveCD-0.7.1.iso (75.4MB, SHA256).

anyway my frens Fazli pakai untuk production dia for backup server..

Dari blog FreeNAS (blog.freenas.org), nampaknya ada developer dia buat benda sama based on Linux. Check out: openmediavault.org. So Menarik jugak ni. :)

Kalu tak silap, kes ni berkait dengan aritu FreeNAS nak ditukar corenya pd Linux, tapi telah ditakeover dan diselamatkan oleh iXSystem, so menten la based on FreeBSD..

Tapi nampaknya mamat tu masih maintain yg Linux punya. So bagus la ada choice.
