Sustainable Mountain Architecture
Anne Feenstra

 

The picture above is of the House With Dancing Windows and is one of Anne Feenstra's best known works. It is located in Badakshan Province, Afghanistan and was built using local materials by local craftsman.

Following his Masters in Architecture from the University of Delph Anne practiced in Europe, In 2004 he set up his own design practice, AFIR Architects and Planner in Kabul, Afghanistan. He has also taught at the Academy of Architecture in Groningen and at Kabul University. He has lectured in Nepal, UK, Afghanistan, Germany, France, Brazil, India and The Netherlands. 

Since 2009 Anne has been a visiting faculty member at the School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi and at Tribhuwan University.In 2012 Anne received the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture. In 2013 he set up the Sustainable Mountain Architecture Office in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Building sustainably in politically, geographically and climatically challenging locations presents many opportunities for Nepal. We welcome Anne to CSGN's Lecture Series and look forward to seeing Members and friends there for what promises to be an absorbing lecture by a leading expert on Sustainable Mountain Architecture.
