Dear all, I need to warn you about a really bad experience with Thai Airways over the Xmas and New Year period. I needed to change some flight dates. I booked online originally from kathmandu, so the website assigns authority to Kathmandu. During the period 30 December to 1 Jan they didnt man the office. So any changes to be made couldnt be made because you need authorization from Kathmandu - regardless of fare cost changes. So basically you couldnt change your flights - even calling Bangkok HQ - no joy because the authority rests with Kathmandu.

I was unable to get economy class fares due to their delays, and they required constant chase up and follow up. Overall the cost on phone calls alone tallies over $150 USD and as I write this the situation is still not resolved.

They then attempted to lock in an upsell of business class at over $186 more per person, given the short legs this wasnt particularly useful. When questioned at the Bali local office I found out it was actually not business class but economy as well. So a bit of deception going here too.

Travellers from Nepal be warned. The Kathmandu office is largely unresponsive, quite deceptive and there is very little that can be done about it. If your booking flights on Thai Airways, make sure you CTRL+ refresh or delete all cache then select any country on the site other than NEPAL. If you do that the ticketing change authority goes to the country you choose and not these clowns in Kathmandu.

A very unprofessional group of people and a blight on Nepal's name, even the Indonesian office and Bangkok office couldnt understand what they are doing. Best advice is avoid a situation where the Kathmandu office isnt in control - or avoid Thai Airways.

For flights in and out of KTM, it's always best to book through an Agent like Yeti Travels. Agents like Yeti are better equipped to deal with airline offices and often get better rates anyway.

Even small travel agents which are registered in government can provide the service. So, I encourage to go through travel agents. It supports travel agents to sustain also.

Hi Joseph

I replied to you on FB expat group too.

I agree with Herog about using a travel agent. I use Jaya Travel in Durbar Marg. And I LOVE Thai Air.

Better luck next time as they say!

Yes, better to book through an agent.  Jaya travels is also very good for bookings, I use them all of the time.

This is very unprofessional work by Thai airlines staff based in Kathmandu. I think Thai airlines has by and large good reputation around the globe but this seems very annoying and frustrating. If anybody from Thai airlines tracking this message must apologize and compensate by providing good services to the passengers. One must know that no one is doing any favour rather passengers are paying and because of that all staff in Thai airlines are getting salary on time.

Hope future services will be catered in better way.

regards,

Subhash

Looking at the scenario, as per my knowledge there are different categories in Economy Class. May be you paid for a higher Economy Class ticket and got confused with Business Class. Thai Airways is one of the prestigious and well renowned Airlines there is, so I do not believe Thai Airways would deceive any of their clients.
