For those who missed it the first
time, The International Club again presents a second Introduction to
Flamenco Dance Workshop with guest teacher Maradee de Guzman of Clara
Ramona and Co. For a limited time only, flamenco dance classes will be
held starting October 24 to November 18, 2011 AD. It just might be
possible that for the first time, this intense art form from Spain will
be taught in Nepal.
The initial
class schedule will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Two time
slots will be opened, 12:45-2:00pm and 6:00-7:15pm and last an hour and
fifteen minutes each. Classes will cover the following technique,
movements and combinations: Ritmos (rhythm), Vueltas (turns),
Taconeos/Zapateados (footwork), Brazeos (armwork), Palmas (rhythmic
clapping. They will be conducted at the International club studio. This
bold art form is for both men and women alike. Your confidence,
creativity, rhythm, coordination, strength and expression will be
developed in these classes.
Since this is an introduction class
and there is no supply of flamenco shoes on hand, students are
encouraged to wear closed shoes with a thick heel that they can stomp in
(ex. Boots), as well as, clothes they can freely move in like what you
would wear to the gym. Women may also bring a full balloon type skirt
that they can swish around.
After a series of classes, the
workshop will culminate in an intimate show and student performance on
Saturday, November 19, showcasing the students' new dances, as well as,
some of Ms. De Guzman’s solo performances. Venue, guest musicians and
other details to be announced.
