Hi expats

I'm currently living in India. Next year I might take a job with a Nepali NGO and live in ktm. Just wondering if someone knows about what kind of visa I will need and what the process is like? Do I need to earn a specific amount per year?

I'm also considering doing my own NGO in Nepal with a friend in the field. I understand Nepali NGO's require 7 Nepali citizens, but can we also include 2 foreigners?

I know I would need to go into Immigration myself and probably get help from an Advocate, but if someone has first hand experience, I would really like to hear from you.

I'm Australian citizen, husband is Indian if that helps.

Regards
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Your husband can still work in Nepal without visa or work permit. If you have also Indian citizenship then you can work with your husband.

Thanks

Hi Sarah,

In Nepali NGO, they look investors from Expats. The government has limited foreigners to work and visa processing is a bit problematic. I have a friend from Britain who is working in Nepal for Ramechhap District. She too had visa processing problem due to which she has to return back to England to correct it.

So, I am not sure if it can be good for your plans. But I will highly encourage you to continue working in India. I believe soon Nepal Government will amend the rules for expats.

Best wishes.

Hello Sarah,

I don't think it will be problem to you as lot of foreigners are working here in Nepal with various NGOs and INGOs, And as an volunteer lots of people are flying here in Nepal to work and to help people.
In terms of establishing new NGO, we need at least 11 people to form a initial committee of 7, and then after we can add as many people as we want as a general member, So it won't be problem unless and until the status - Organization bylaws restrict it.
