Hello,

I would like to import some second hand mountain bikes from the UK to Kathmandu, Nepal. Namely Specialized, Giant and Trek, excellent quality and in working order.

I have been quoted £4.50 a kg for door to door transport, from the UK, To Kathmandu.

Has anybody imported a Mountain bike from abroad to Nepal?

I'm not sure what the process will be like, and duty and taxes to be paid in Nepal?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards

You would be better off to buy second hand, high in bikes from one of the respected Adventure Sport Tour Companies in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
The best Companies within Kathmandu & Pokhara, trade out their bikes after a season or two. They fully maintain their bikes while in their possession and you will get a better price then you would in the UK for a bike new or used. I suggest you completely avoid the import fees and tariffs and support Nepali companies directly.

When you import a bike you pay a high Nepali import tariff. They don't care that it is second-hand the Nepali government wants it's 'cut'
They are not interested if your tell them it is your personal bike and you plan on using it to trekking. You will pay a retail sale import fee, mostly based on their assessed value of the item not yours, your notarized paper work or the physical value. Unless the bikes are brought in in your hand luggage, in multiple pieces which look nothing like a bike and are not  3 or more of the same part. These would later be reconstructed into the aforementioned 'second hand bike," then you are going to pay the high import tariff.

Let me know if you need further information.
