Compliments to Philblessie Dhakal for posting a very good advertisement for an apartment/flat. The ad includes the location, amenities, and the PRICE! :)  Thank you!

Except that, uh, it says "for rent to westerners." That strikes me as kind of like "for rent to white people." I get it that Westerners/expats are often looking for specific high-end features in rentals, and I hope the intent was just to highlight that (along with potentially helpful assets like the owner's language skills) -- but what it actually indicates is that a potential renter who was Nepali (or Indian or Thai or anyone else with a "non-Western" ethnicity) would not be considered. I hope that wasn't the intent, but I've see that kind of thing a lot on the listserv, and just had to mention it this time ...

I meant, lead to scarcity for non-expats. Perhaps the ad posters don't intend to be discriminatory towards Nepalis, but the statement and behavior certainly is discriminatory.

Sally - agreed; I overlooked that inadvertently. I don't know why rental/sale ads on the list often do stipulate this, and it strikes as wrong and disturbing. Is it because the landlord wants to charge a much higher price and Nepalis and Indians - knowing the market better -- won't pay that? Clearly, that's not a justification. It seems that would also push rent prices very high in all areas of Kathmandu, too, lead to scarcity of affordable apartments, etc.
