I am based in Patan and am wondering if there are people in Kathmandu who go running? I would be happy to get some recommendation for a good running site, sports site or running group!

You have to get out at least to the ring road, then use google maps to locate the least populated , green area.

If you have a smart phone invest in a running app, and an offline map program. I use two depending on what I want to do:  maps with me pro - is fast but no routing, GPS Nav and MAps - slow but has routing

other option... You could join a gym

Have a look at the running apps - every trail, map my run, and my personal fav Run keeper for others routes around K Town.

FYI:  KTM has one of the highest population measures in the world - a mix of valley geography, a low wind cold climate and corruption, run early and away from the traffic.

also in patan! im just outside the ring road and it is much quieter/cleaner as you go closer to godavari. lots of nice backroads. not in tip top running form yet, but i plan to get out a lot more in the near future! always looking for running partners.

Certainly central Kathmandu is not a ideal place to run. Having said that, where there is will there is way :) The best time to run in central KTM is either early morning or late at night.

As you live in Patan you can go around the Patan area early in the morning which is always refreshing as you'll be rounding the prehistoric monuments. Also you can try to bypass ring road and make your way to Godavari either via main road or by a trail between the town.

Check out Kathmandu Running Club in Facebook. They run twice a week in Kathmandu and are familiar with all the running activities in and around the country.

Best,
Sudeep
