How to open Bank account in Nepal for a foreigner?

Hi,

My name is Michael and I m from australia. I went to create bank account in Nabil Bank but they said no to me , because i am here in Tourist Visa,

Is there any way to make bank account here?

I read in few forums in internet that Standard Chatered Bank allows to make Nepalese bank account but i m not sure,

Most of the 'A' Listed banks might allow you to open an account... You can try Nepal Investment Bank Ltd (NIBL).

Hi Michael, 

I am an American currently on a tourist visa (which I will convert to a study visa). I just a week ago opened a savings account at the Nabil Bank at Pulchowk. I simply walked in, went to the customer service counter and asked to open a savings. They took copies of my passport and my tourist visa and then gave me an application to fill out. They didn't question me once or say anything about the tourist visa. I was prepared to plead my case, but I didn't even need to. Maybe you should try this branch of Nabil if you haven't already.

Regarding Nabil and possibly all banks, they will block your account if they don't have a current visa on record.  This means the date your visa expires, your account will be blocked until you go in and show them or give them a copy of your renewed visa.

I found this out the hard way.
