Hello all,

After reading the reports about the pesticide levels found on vegetables in KTM, I've decided to go as organic as I possibly can.

I've done a bit of research that I wanted to share with you all about where organic food can be found in Kathmandu, hope this is of interest to some of you.

I haven't visited all of these yet, and there may be more out there, but this is what I could find from a bit of internet searching.

Organic shops:

Kheti Bazaar - is in Dili Bazaar,  http://www.khetibazaar.com/ I have not been here but they appear to sell vegetables aswell as rice, tea/coffee, beans etc

Organic Village-  is in Baluwater, I have not been here but there website says they sell herbs&spices, beans, rice. I'm not sure if they sell veg  http://www.theorganicvillage.com/

Organic World and Fair Future. This is a bigger company who sell their products in other shops. They have an outlet at Kareshor Marga, Bhimsengola and information about where they sell other products can be found on this link http://www.organicworldfairfuture.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=43&Itemid=117

One that I can't remember the name of….it's on the ring-road, half-way between Balaju and Maharajgunj (on the left-hand side if you are coming up from Balaju). It is slightly off the road but has a large sign, there is also an organic cafe attached to it. They sell veg, rice, beans, coffee, tea.

Organic and Health Food Centre, Utar Dokha. I have been here, they sell veg, herbs & spices, milk, yoghurt, meat & fish (which they say is organic, but i have not discussed this), honey, mustard oil, rice, beans https://www.facebook.com/pages/Organic-and-Health-Food-Centre/622508894493383

Restaurants:

1905 on Kantipath http://www.1905restaurant.com/index.php Their vegetables are organic

Bhojan Griha, Dili Bazaar http://www.bhojangriha.com/index.html I haven't been here, but they state that they are an organic restaurant (this is the same location as Kheti Bazaar listed above) who are both environmentally and socially responsible. I want to eat here soon!

Green Organic Café and Farmers Bar, Thamel https://www.facebook.com/pages/Green-Organic-Cafe-and-Farmers-Bar-Thamel-Kathmandu-Nepal/119515298129576 I have eaten here recently, they food was nice, but not everything here is organic (meat and diary products were not organic when we visited) They get their produce from the same suppliers as the Organic and Health Food Centre (listed above)

Bu Keba- The Organic Village Cafe, Bakhundol/Kupondole Heights https://www.facebook.com/pages/B%C3%BA-Keb%C3%A1/111379398929562 I have not eaten here, the name suggests they are linked to The Organic Village, listed above.

Kantipur Temple House, Thamel http://www.kantipurtemplehouse.com/dining.php Their website says they have an organic section at the restaurant. They discuss being as sustainable as possible.

***************

Would be very interested to hear anyone's thoughts on any of these places, or if you know anymore please add it to this list.

Apologies if any of this information is incorrect or out-of-date.

Milkmandu delivers organic milk, yoghurt and cream and they have a shop in sanepa.
The market at 1905 on Saturdays has a lot of organic vendors.

This is really helpful thanks.
There is also a new organic shop in Baluwatar (almost opposite the Chinese Embassy. It is called 'Paluwa' I think, and sells a range of veg, fruit, dairy products, herbs, spices, grains and pasta. A good range for a small shop. Highly recommended.

Hello,

Thank you so much for your research in Organics in Kathmandu!

I am the founder of Khetibazaar, and we operate since September 2010 and sell vegetables, fruits, beans, rice, lentils, tea coffee. I have fresh produce coming in on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays. The shop is inside the restaurant Bhojan Griha which also offers organic food apart from meat.

Kantipur Temple House is also our sister concern and they source from us for their restaurant.

Please do visit!

Regards
Subechhya
PS: ORGANIC APPLES FROM JUMLA ARRIVING SOON! If road conditions are favorable, then within 1 week.
