Hi,
I'm planning to bring my dog (small - 5Kg) to Nepal from Israel on Dec. I couldn't find any regulation, procedures and such by Nepal government.
does anyone have done this procedure and can share insights? is there anyone specializing in flying pets to Nepal ?

Many thanks!

Ben, please contact Uttam at Animal Nepal (animalne...@gmail.com) as he would know, or can find out. Animal Nepal is an animal-related NGO that can help pet owners with all sorts of things, see www.animalnepal.org for more...

FYI, while it is important to have the paperwork ready while bringing in dogs, actually no one at the KTM airport may bother to check. I brought my two golden retrievers from India 2 years back, and no asked me any question as I carted them out of the airport :).

The short answer is you need a health certificate with vaccination record from the appropriate government department in your country.
The Nepali Agency that regulates this is the Quarantine Office although it is the Airport that you need to contact in advance (they contact the Quarantine Office). You are required to inform at the Airport in Kathmandu seven hours prior to arrival. However, since the airport can hardly be reached by phone it will be better to contact and inform Airport or Quarantine in person, for instance through a Nepalese friend
You need to fill out the Import Certificate and hand that over to the officers.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi,  I imported my cat to Nepal from the UK about a year ago.  I somehow got an email address for the appropriate department. Here's the reply I got from them.  I did everything required (rabies vaccine and bill of health from the vet) but as someone else noted, no one bothered to check papers when we arrived and we just carted her out. Also, when we arrived to the baggage claim, there was no special place to collect her. Rather we just found her in her box, abandoned on the floor in the middle of the baggage claim area.  Here's the email:

    Message body

    Dear Nicole,

Thank you for the mail. For importing dog/cat into Nepal, you need to
vaccinate the pet against rabies. The pet must have the health certificate
indicating about the fitness of the pet which is issued by the official
veterinarian or the authorized veterinarian. You need to have the
certificate as well as the vaccination card with you as you may be asked
for it at the quarantine station at the airport.

You donot need to have import permit as it is not issued for the pet animals.

    regards
    Directorate of animal health

Things has change a lot. Since many people has started traveling with their pets through Nepal to India, airport has started evaluating the cost of dog & applying duty custom on pets. Depending on the size of dog, you must be prepared to pay the custom ranging between USD 100 to USD 250. The custom officer will give you a bill for that.

Beside this, your pet need up-to-date vaccinations and a Health Certificate issued within 10 days.
