Many of us living in KTM as ex-pats, tourist, whatever are in a privileged position in our lifes to be able to be here.

There are many skill sets, much experience, and much love that we need to find a way of using positively. From finding out what relief organisations are doing what, and letting friends and family know who to support, to doing what we can on the ground, looking after other people.

As members of the community of this city and country, we should do what we can to help - but these efforts must be directed and co-ordinated in a professional and effective way. I'm not saying I know how to do this, but just putting out a message that yes aid is welcome and necessary, but it needs to be deployed in a useful fashion. This is something we can potentially help with.

Sorry this message doesn't make a great deal of sense - let's find a way to help. Use your own resources where you can.

Stay safe

Kyle, thank you for getting this thread started. I have been looking some online for ways to help out (I'm currently in Pokhara with so so Internet), but have not had any luck in finding any sign ups. I imagine it may take a while for aid organizations to be ready to accept volunteers on the ground given how chaotic things are. However, I plan on reaching out to several organizations today to see if I can find anything out. I can share what I find with this group. For those with decent internet, Ushahidi has a post about how to help out online: http://www.ushahidi.com/2015/04/25/supporting-online-volunteer-response-to-the-nepal-earthquake/.

Have any others heard of ways to help out? One idea is for those interested to put their information on our own sign up sheet, and one of us can share with a volunteer relief organization once an opportunity presents itself. I've started a signup sheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/105MUdLeYosaPcDDboxKNyYCVHhOw1rmHCO3MgQfp8b0/edit?usp=docslist_api. I can't promise that I will be able to get this to an aid organization, but I'll do what I can. At the very least, it could be a way for some of us in the same neighborhoods to connect with each other.

Happy to hear others' ideas too.

Anyone on twitter use hashtags #Nepalquake and #Act4Nepal. Folow @AYONNepal who are doing some work with co-ordination, as is @HerTurnNepal

My understanding is that all hospitals (except CIWEC) need water.

This site is also useful www.savefromearthquakenepal.org    The site Kevin posted is also really good, perhaps anyone with good internet can help them co-ordinate on a local level?

Blood donations are being taken at Nepal Red Cross on Exhibition Rd (by the Tourism Board). Blood is desperately needed. Many outlying villages need food and water, anyone with any to spare can help out with their local communities. There is also this map https://www.google.com/maps/d/embed?mid=zrLtlph3wqGc.knBxtiF0A_hQ showing where camps have been set-up, and where you may be able to go to help.

Things are getting worse I think for people who struggling with sleeping outside and aid is not getting through.

Agreed. At the moment so few have internet access so hard to coordinate.

If you are part of a specific/local effort then please make sure the village & VDC name is mentioned (plus what you are doing & a phone number & location) in a report on here so other people can potentially coordinate with you.

http://www.kathmandulivinglabs.org/earthquake/reports

There is a SEARCH box right at the top of the screen so you can search immediately for a place and see, potentially, what is reportedly happening there
