Kill the Housing Bill campaign update...
The Housing and Planning Bill is now the Housing and Plannng Act.
The 100-strong meeting of activists on the 21st of May agreed that we need to continue and step up the campaign, as: Axe the Housing Act
We will have a second national demonstration on the 18th of June assembling at 12 noon from Hyde Park corner London.
We agreed to march to Savills HQ near Oxford Street - Savills is a global property corporation that 'advised' the government on drawing up the Bill and will now look to profit from it.
Come to the next organising meeting Sat 4 June 11am at Brunswick Centre tenant rooms. 10 Foundling Court WC1N 1AN ,2nd floor via entrance no. 1 Marchmont Street (near Russell Square tube station). Please send any reports and suggestions if you can't make it.
The Act limped through Parliament 12 May (read Act here ), but will not be in force till April 2017; much of its detail is not yet agreed. Most people still don't know about the end of building homes for rent, sell offs of council homes, pay to stay tenant tax, de-regulation of housing associations, failure to control private rents, and make it easier to demolish and clear estates.
Axe the Housing Act is working to create a mass grassroots movement to resist, defy and stop the Act, linking tenants of all tenures, trade unions, those in housing need and all who want housing change, with politicians who support our aims: Axe the Housing Act - secure homes for all - control rents. (See notes from 21 May meeting attached.)
A new leaflet for the demo on June 18th is available, and posters plus an updated Briefing are on the way. Collect these on Sat 4th or from Unite office 128 Theobalds Rd, London WC1X 8TN. Or email to arrange postage.
If your group has funds: we need £donations and support - and can get speakers for local meetings.
