英語句子的資訊排列有尾重原則（end weight），

所以作者認為是新且重要的資訊，通常是放在句尾（在中譯時，應將原意表現出來）： 

The book was found by Ann at the library. 
那本書是Ann在圖書館理找到的（找到書的地方是圖書館）。 

The book was found at the library by Ann. 
那本書是在圖書館裡被Ann找到的（找到書的人是Ann）。 

The song was written by Larry for Mia. 
Larry寫的那首歌是為Mia所寫的（作曲的目的重要）。 

The song was written for Mia by Larry. 
為了Mia所寫的那首歌是Larry的作品（作曲者重要）。

多個副詞性質的修飾語排在一起時，其順序是：

manner + place + time或movement (how) + location (where)。

但文字較長或較重要的多向後移。 
She saw him at the bank at 8 a.m.（不強調） 
At 8 a.m., she saw him at the bank.（強調時間點） 
The car rolled downhill towards the village.（按發生的時序） 
I'll see you at half past nine on Friday.（較小單位時間通常放前面，移後時表示強調）

多個和時間有關的副詞在一起時，順序是：how long + how often + when 
I see her for a few hours every Friday. 
I saw her briefly last Friday. 
He was absent several times last term.

修飾述部的「修飾語」其放置的位置不因動詞的主被動不同而異。 

如果修飾語所修飾的對象有二，必須移動位置，語意才清楚： 
He said this afternoon he'd call me. （不確定this afternoon修飾的是said，還是call） 
This afternoon, he said he'd call me.（修飾的是said） 
He said he'd call me this afternoon.（修飾的是call）

Soon they decided to leave. = They soon decided to leave. 
但They decided to leave soon.不同於上面的兩句，因為soon修飾的是不定詞to leave。
