Welcome to this weeks edition of KSVR Word Waves -we will be returning
to a regular schedule, beginning January 4th!

LISTEN AND LEARN

Wednesday, December 17th at 7PM
Ponder this scenario on KSVR Radio: First it was door to door, now
it's email to email. Will community organizing have the same power in
a virtual community? Actionspeaks Radio asks the question: “How will
we organize for change in the 21st century?” Using the anniversary of
the opening of the Highlander Center as the starting point, a panel,
meeting at the AS220 café in Providence Rhode Island explore this
question and more.

Wednesday, December 16th, "Fascinatin' Rhythms" at Midnight
Practice staying up until past midnight (in preparation for New Years
Eve) and tune in for a program about Elvis Preseley's 'comeback' show
in 1968!

Thursday, December 17th, "Alternative Radio" at 4PM
KSVR presents Alternative Radio, an antidote to the corporate media
message. Economy, Ecology & Empire is the title of a lecture by John
Bellamy Foster. Professor of sociology at the University of Oregon,
Dr. Foster says that the obvious interrelated crises in the economy,
the environment and imperialism eludes most citizens. Foreclosures,
bankruptcies, and joblessness are at levels not seen since the Great
Depression while money flows into endless wars and occupations and
resources are being depleted at an unsustainable rate.

Thursday, December 17th "Skagit Talks" at 5PM
KSVR lucked out on an interview with Jackie Heinricher, the recent
recipient of a "Dreamers into Doers" award from Martha Stewart!
Jackie is the owner of Boo-shoot Gardens, a biotechnology company that
has become the first in the world to clone bamboo.

PARTICIPATE
Still working on those "news years resolutions?" -make sure to mark
your 2010 calendar for the KSVR Open House, happening on Tuesday,
January 19th from 4-6PM at Reeves Hall. This is an excellent way to
become familiar with the wide variety of local programming produced at
KSVR Studios, meet staff and volunteers, learn about KSVU and enjoy
some light refreshments! Watch for flyers to be posted around campus
and the Skagit Community in early January.
