Malalia Joya,
expelled member of the Afghan Senate, worker for women's rights in
Afghanistan, under death threats in her home country, talks about the
negative affect the presence of US troops have on human rights,
democracy and justice in Afganistan.
Thursday, April 8th 4:55PM "Bookviews" Skagit County librarians review
the book "The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet" by Janie Ford.
Thursday, April 8th 5PM, "Skagit Talks" News Editor Joanna Bruno has
gathered a wide range of stories to share with you this week. New
laws protect pets as well as moms and children threatened by domestic
violence. The American Heart Assn. wants everyone to walk for a
healthy heart. Governor Gregoire has declared April Financial
Literacy Month. Learn how you can enhance your financial knowledge.
Washing your car can be good for the environment! Find out how you can
help. WSU Master Gardeners will answer your plant and insect questions
at weekly clinics beginning this month. Can parents be to blame for
obese children? Find out what you can do to protect your children.
How is the Washington Conservation Corps is helping low income
families lower their carbon footprint? Also, on Skagit Talks, the
continuation of the Social Problems Class discussing gang activity in
Skagit County.

the Census 2010 is progressing, with special guest Dulce Roa from the
Seattle Regional Census Center. (repeats on Saturday at 6:30AM, 7:30PM
and Sunday at 6:30AM)

Set your KSVR Clocks for Thursday, April 8th from 8-10PM for the
Spring Open House. You'll have no trouble staying awake as you meet
DJ's and program producers, tour the station, audition for "KSVR Reads
and Records" and enjoy light refreshments. DJ Def Kawn, host of "The
Massive Mix Session" will be demonstrating the art of mixing music on
turntables, debuting local hip-hop music, and introducing special
guest, "The Sav" from Federal Way. Also, the team from locally
produced "Noticas Skagit" will be talking about the upcoming "One
America Rally".
NEXT WEEK- Meet up with KSVR staff at the Mount Vernon Library Spring
Book Sale, taking place on Saturday, April 17th at 10AM, to both
purchase books to benefit "Friends of the Mount Vernon Library" and
learn about the locally produced program on KSVR, "Bookviews" and
answer the question "What's your favorite book to check out, at the
library?"
