simple guide to what’s happened and what’s happening on KSVR 91.7FM

HIGHLIGHT of the WEEK
KSVR is busy preparing for the annual Citizenship Day, to be held Feb
5th at Skagit Valley College. If you know someone who is interested
in applying for citizenship or needs some assistance with the process,

5PM Wednesday, Feb 2 “Speak Up! Speak Out!Ginny talks with several of
the people involved with the Envision Skagit 2060 project. What Might
the Skagit Valley look like in 50 years? (we’re a little late getting
this guide out to tune in for this program, but listen on Sundays at
8PM or download archived programs at speakupspeakoutradio.org)

7PM Wednesday, Feb 2 “Documentary Hour”
An original play, “William’s Leap for Freedom,” based on the life of
the freed slave William Wells Brown. Throughout his lifetime, Brown
was a fugitive slave, a conductor on the Underground Railroad, an
abolitionist, an anti-slavery lecturer, an historian, a medical
doctor, and a poet.

8-10PM Wednesday, Feb 2 “The Blue Boulevard”
Start off the month of February with blues and Americana music,
special guests, and local program host, Jackson Stewart.
Midnight Documentary (midnight Wednesday) "Wailin' Soul: Bob Marley
and the African-American Connection" The Midnight Ravers look at the
evolution of reggae music and the influence of African-American
culture in general and on Bob Marley, specifically.

5PM Thursday, Feb 3 “Skagit Talks”
In the news on Skagit Talks this week:
Well-known humanitarian Greg Mortenson shared his thoughts on
education in the Middle East last Thursday. Hear what he had to
say...

7PM Thursday, Feb 3 “Alternative Radio”
Amiri Baraka: “Resistance and the Arts” - “The billionaire mandarins
of our culture can show us the horrors of war on a movie screen and
pretend they are making an important statement. But the artists go
beyond that, to resistance."

8-10PM Thursday, Feb 3 “Massive Mix Session”
Tune in for this locally produced hip-hop filled program, which often
includes guest rap artists, music and commentaries by “DJ DefKawn”.

5PM Friday, Feb 4 “Skagit Talks”
A focus on health, with SeaMar Dietician, Alision Wepler.

6:30AM Saturday, Feb 5 “Latino Special”
David Bacon explains the cycle of power and control behind migration
and globalization. Profits for mega corporation owners, workers suffer
from Mexico to the USA. How helping even illegal immigrants helps all
workers.

8AM Saturday, Feb 5 “Noticias Skagit”
News and more, locally produced, in Spanish, for KSVR (subjects from
the previous week)
1- Refugees and immigrants have to work very hard this legislative
session

2- Washington State senator proposed that no more licenses for illegal
immigrants

PARTICIPATE

Maybe you’re hosting a “Super Bowl Party” this weekend, expand your

Foosic of the week

Thai peanut sauce

Ingredients:
1lb. Of smooth peanut butter
11/2 cans of coconut milk
1/3 cup of soy sauce
1/2 cup sweet Thai chili sauce
Juice of 2 limes
1/3 cup chopped cilantro
2 tablespoons of brown sugar

Directions

In a medium sauce pan heat the coconut milk at low to medium heat
Stir in peanut butter
When blended add the soy and chili sauce and continue storing gently
As mixture heats and blends together
Stir in lime juice and sugar
Reduce heat and add cilantro
Stir to keep it blended and when mixed well
It's ready.
Try it over rice, as a salad dressing and of course with chicken or
grilled tofu.
Enjoy!!

KSVR Studios, on Wednesday March 9th from 4-6PM. In addition to tours
of the station and the chance to meet volunteers and staff, we’re
encouraging all attendees to bring your favorite radio in –be in your
great-great-great grandparents or the latest 2011 version for a “radio
revival”
