Welcome to this week’s update of KSVR Word Waves, a short and simple
guide to what’s happened and what’s happening on KSVR 91.7FM.
HIGHLIGHTS of the WEEK
KSVU 90.1 is coming! Read the latest at www.ksvr.org, in an article
reprinted by permission, from the Concrete Herald.
KSVR Radio has once again made a donation to the Champions of
Diversity Scholarship Fund, in the amount of $3000, to provide vital
assistance for Skagit valley College students. All money raised was
generated from the recent CD collection ticket sales, the queen
contest and dance ticket revenue. The money was awarded by the Skagit
Valley College Radio Club, which is the entity managed by KSVR and
composed of college students.

5PM Wednesday December 1, “Speak Up, Speak Out!
Migrating Towards Justice: Stories to Transform People and Policy.
Recently, Witness for Peace partnered with Tierra Nueva and the Skagit
Immigrant Rights Council to bring a Nicaraguan campesino leader to
Skagit. Augusto Castillo Obregón weaves personal stories to connect
issues of globalization and neo-liberal economic models to migration
and environmental degradation in Nicaragua. Listen through an
interpreter to what Obregón has to say about the perils of corporate
and IMF (International Monetary Fund) and WTO (World Trade
Organization) rule over communities and trade.
8-10PM, Wednesday, December 1, “The Blue Boulevard”
There’s an added bonus to listening to this locally produced blues and
Americana music program tonight –you just might win tickets to hear
Duke Robbillards on Sunday December 5th at The Conway Muse. Program
Host Jackson Stewart will be joined by special guests, Crosstown Kari
and Jump Up Jonny.

It’s the last recipe in the first series, and a perfect dessert for
this time of year to impress any holiday party. “Flaming Mango Tango”
with Chef Martin Hahn of the Culinary Arts Program. NOTE: The first
series of Kitchen Cuisine is coming to a close...and this series will
be switched to airing on Sundays at 8:30PM, beginning Sunday, December
12th. Returning to the 4:30PM slot will be the Skagit Music Show and
Old Time Radio, presented by KSVR Radio.
4:55PM Sunday, December 5 “BookViews”
Skagit County Librarians review the book “My Name is Mary Sutter”
written by Robin Oliviera, about a 20 year old midwife, the Civil War
and gaining medical experience.

Jackson Stewart, Co-Host of "The Blue Boulevard" is accepting
applications for volunteer co-hosts! Applicants are welcome to try
out their radio voice once, or become repeat guest co-hosts. Mystify
your friends, as Jackson bequeaths a unique name to each participant,
so this is your opportunity to wow your friends with your new alter-
ego, such as "Crosstown Kari" or "Jump Up Jonny"
Volunteer Co-Hosts should have a curiosity about or a love of blues
and americana music, and the willingness to assist with alphabetizing
CD's or light research would be appreciated. Please contact Jackson

Chefstuarto's Quick Butter Pecan Bars for Chanukah
Ingredients
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup pecan halves
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8x8 inch
square baking pan.
In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and white
sugar. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour and pecans
until just blended. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges begin
to pull away from the sides of the pan. Allow bars to cool in the pan
before cutting.
