Welcome to the Wednesday edition of KSVR Word Waves, your mid-week
guide to what's happening on KSVR 91.7FM "Community Radio for the
Skagit Valley"

HIGHLIGHT of the WEEK
Tune in for this special live broadcast taking place on Monday, May
9th at 10AM: Skagit Valley College President Gary Tollefson and Vice-
President for Administrative Services Mary Alice Grobins will explain
the Washington State mandated budget cuts, and the upcoming 2-year
budget for SVC. This is the third year of budget cuts, and last
month, SVC gave notice that over 50 positions at the college would be
eliminated.

Spanish language translation will be offered on the air. Time will
be set aside for public questions via telephone (416-7000). Time for
KSVR reporter interviews will occur after the radio broadcast.

5PM Wednesday, April 20 "Speak Up! Speak Out!"
Dave talks with Lisa Mitchel, producer of the locally made film, “We
Live Here” in which local gay and lesbian, youth and their allies talk
about their lives. The program will also include audio clips from the
film.


7PM Wednesday, April 20th "Documentary Hour")
April 22 is Earth Day. The documentary hour presents Sustainable
Design for the Future. In this one-hour special report, listeners
will visit buildings in the city and towns in the country, where
sustainable ideas are part of the architecture of everyday life, and
hear about large projects, encompassing the whole community, major
green technologies, and small, inexpensive products to enhance
individual lives in the Third World.

(midnight) "Midnight Documentary"
We present the Stulph File – an audio magazine filled with
interviews, commentary and news of the odd.


5PM Thursday, April 21 "Skagit Talks"
Conversations of note with the An-O-Chords, based in Anacortes,
Washington and their youth outreach music program.

7PM Thursday, April 21 "Alternative Radio"
Kathy Christison, who worked for the CIA as a political analyst,
dealing first with Vietnam and then with the Middle East, talks about
the Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory - a serious obstacle
to peace and a just resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Noon-1PM Friday, April 22 "Dr D's Lunchbox"
Sounds of jazz heard only on KSVU at 90.1FM!

5PM Friday, April 22 "Skagit Talks"
Local interviewers talk with Kelly O'Heron a high school student
attending Stanwood High School.

6:30AM Saturday, April 23 "Latino Special"
We join Laura Carlson at a protest in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico a city of
immense violence. She speaks about how Plan Meridia and the “War On
Drugs” which was started by Bush and expanded under Obama has
escalated drug-related violence and human rights abuses. How both
government and drug lords act with impunity and disregard for the rule
of law, and how this makes women especially vulnerable.
