NEWS RELEASE

KSP Arrests Hopkinsville

Man after Pursuit

Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) – On December 15, 2019 at approximately 8:44 PM, Trooper Brett Martin of Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville, observed a black 2008 Ford Mustang traveling northbound on the Pennyrile Parkway at a high rate of speed.

Trooper Martin initiated his emergency equipment to stop the vehicle, but the operator began to flee. The vehicle finally came to a stop on Western Hills Blvd, where the operator exited his vehicle and began to flee on foot. Trooper Martin, Hopkinsville Police Officers, and Christian County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to apprehend the subject, identified as Wilford Smith, 36, of Hopkinsville, Ky.

Wilford Smith was arrested and lodged in the Christian County Detention Center where he was charged with the following:

1.)   Speeding 26 MPH or > Speed Limit (Limited Access)

2.)   Reckless Driving

3.)   Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)

4.)   Fleeing or Evading Police, 2nd Degree (On Foot)

5.)   Failure of Non-owner Operator to Maintain Required Ins/Sec, 1st Offense

6.)   Improper Display of Registration Plates

7.)   DUI 1st

8.)   Resisting Arrest

KSP Arrests Hopkinsville

Man after Pursuit

Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) – On December 17, 2019 at approximately 8:36 PM, Trooper Hunter Carroll of Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville, observed a silver 2017 Nissan Maxima traveling northbound on the Pennyrile Parkway at a high rate of speed.

Trooper Carroll initiated his emergency equipment to stop the vehicle, but the operator began to flee. The pursuit continued until the vehicle took exit 11, and was found sitting in a residential driveway. Through further investigation, Trooper Carroll discovered Albert Lewis Jr., 27, of Hopkinsville, KY, was the operator of the vehicle.

Albert Lewis Jr. was arrested without incident, and lodged in the Christian County Detention Center where he was charged with the following:

1.)   Speeding 26 MPH or > Speed Limit (Limited Access)

2.)   Reckless Driving

3.)   Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)

4.)   Wanton Endangerment- 1st Degree

5.)   Operating on Suspended or Revoked Operator’s License

6.)   Disregarding Traffic Cont Dev- Traffic Light

7.)   Failure to or Improper Signal

8.)   Failure to Notify Address Change to Dept. of Transportation

9.)   Improper use of Left Lane- Overtaking Vehicle
