KSP Angel Initiative Offers Help, Not Handcuffs,
For Those Seeking Addiction Treatment
Nortonville, KY (Hopkins County) – With 2020 now here, the Kentucky State Police would like to remind those who want change in their lives of our Angel Initiative.
In March of 2018 the Kentucky State Police launched the Angel Initiative across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Initiative encourages individuals suffering with substance use disorder (SUD) to visit a local KSP post for assistance with treatment.
The program encourages individuals seeking addiction treatment to visit a KSP post, where he or she will be paired with a local officer who will assist with locating an appropriate treatment program. It is completely voluntary, and the individual will not be arrested or charged with any violations if he or she agrees to participate in treatment.
In 2019, the Kentucky State Police had 129 people across the state seek help with the Angel Initiative. Of those seeking help, 77% (99 candidates), were successfully placed in a same day treatment program. Of those candidates, 64% were male, while 36% were female.
In 2019, KSP Post 2 in Madisonville had 6 individuals take advantage of the program. Since the Angel Initiative’s statewide launch in 2018, KSP Post 2 has had a total of 16 candidates. Of those 16, 75% (12 candidates) were placed in same-day treatment.
The most self-reported drugs abused in 2019 were:
1.) Methamphetamine
2.) Prescription Opiates and Heroin
3.) Marijuana
KSP would like to encourage anyone who is suffering with substance use, and is wanting change, to reach out to their local Kentucky State Police Post for more information about the program.
