NEWS RELEASE

Two Arrested after KSP Traffic Stop

 

Earlington, KY (Hopkins County) – On January 11, 2020 at approximately 10:27 PM, Trooper Cody Kromer, of Kentucky State Police Post 2 in Madisonville, observed a 2008 black Nissan Rogue operating carelessly on Oakwood Avenue in Earlington.

 

Trooper Kromer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle where he came in contact with the operator, identified as Kandice Barnhill, age 41, of Madisonville, KY. Through further investigation, Trooper Kromer discovered Barnhill to be under the influence, and in possession of suspected methamphetamine and various prescription pills.

 

Trooper Trevor High was also present during the traffic stop, and made contact with a passenger in Barnhill’s vehicle, identified as Jeffery Smith, age 38, of Marion, KY. Further investigation revealed Smith was also under the influence, and in possession of marijuana.

While being lodged at the detention center, it was also discovered Smith had hidden suspected methamphetamine, various prescription pills, and suspected heroin on his person.

 

Kandice Barnhill was arrested and lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center where she was charged with the following:

 

1.)   Careless Driving

2.)   Improper Equipment

3.)   License to be in Possession

4.)   Failure to Produce Insurance Card

5.)   DUI 3^rd

6.)   Possession of Controlled Substance 1^st Degree, 1^st Offense (Methamphetamine)

7.)   Possession Controlled Substance, 3^rd Degree – Drug Unspecified

8.)   Failure to Notify Address Change to Department of Transportation

9.)   Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle Prohibited

 

Jeffery Smith was arrested and lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center where he was charged with the following:

 

1.)   Possession of Marijuana

2.)   Public Intoxication- Controlled Substance (Excludes Alcohol)

3.)   Promoting Contraband – 1^st Degree

4.)   Tampering with Physical Evidence

5.)   Possession Controlled Substance, 1^st Degree, 3^rd or > Offense (Methamphetamine)

6.)   Possession Controlled Substance, 3^rd Degree – Drug Unspecified

7.)   Possession Controlled Substance 1^st Degree, 1^st Offense (Heroin)
