Adeline Bowman was born in 1908 and lives a normal life until 1937, when she has a car accident that miraculously saves her from death and gives her eternal youth. Since then, Adeline stops aging and changes her identity every ten years to hide her secret. The only person who knows her true story is her daughter Flemming, who is aging normally.
In 2015, Adeline lives in San Francisco under the name Jennifer Larson and works in a library. One day she meets Ellis Jones, a charming philanthropist who falls in love with her and invites her out. Adeline reluctantly accepts, but realizes she has feelings for him. He decides to drive him to his parents' house for the weekend, but here he discovers that Ellis' father is William Jones, a man she met in the '60s and fell in love with. William recognizes Adeline and asks her about her unchanged appearance. Adeline reveals the truth and tells him that she left him because she did not want to involve him in his complicated situation. William tells her he says he never forgot them and asks her to stay with him, but Adeline refuses because she now loves Ellis.
