The Engineering Manager is responsible for the product engineering
function. The Engineering Manager is also responsible for ensuring the
Engineering Department conforms to the company quality system procedures
as documented.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Establish procedures for maintaining high standards of quality,
reliability, and safety in product designs and
applications. Determine
and enforce -- through functional groups - quality and safety
requirements in accordance with company needs, based on current
regulations and state-of-the art product development. Evaluate and
develop improved techniques for the control of product designs, quality,
reliability and safety. Also works with customers, as required, to
ensure products conform to customer requirements and meet/exceed the
customers' needs.
Directly responsible for implementation and maintenance of design
control procedures, reporting on the performance of product engineering,
improving product designs and sustaining engineering activities.
* Provides technical guidance, reviews progress and make changes
as needed. Recommends improvements to existing products or processes.
* Responsible for developing preliminary equipment estimates and
scope to support project/product development/ in-filling existing
product
lines.
* Responsible for preparing specifications, data sheets, RFQ's,
technical bid summaries, FOEs and manufacturing packages for Product
Engineering and R & D projects.
* Responsible for the review of vendor drawings and data. Must be
able to communicate detailed design issues effectively with suppliers,
clients, and other engineering disciplines. Must effectively manage
follow-up of equipment through fabrication, testing, installation, and
start-up and provide support to field staff as required supporting
specific project requirements.
* Assist in the development and update of discipline standards and
procedures (ISO/API etc)..
* Travel, as required, to ensure the successful execution of
projects/product development.
* Participate in lab testing and/or field testing as required;
analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets client or
other internal specifications.

Determine and act upon any design modifications or redesign of
existing products.
* Evaluate Engineering Change Notices (ECN's) and Product Changes
as approve where required.
* Manage and establish the resources and employees necessary to
build a competent engineering department.
Organization Relationships:
The Product Engineering Manager reports directly to the Technical
Director and has a support responsibility to all functional vice
presidents, directors and managers.
Education and Training:
The Engineering Manager should preferably have a four year technical
degree, in a field that offers an opportunity to gain a well rounded
background. Additional class work in management type courses and
problem-solving techniques is preferred.
Technical Requirements:
Ten or more years of broad technical experience, of which at least five
years should be product management or product
engineering.
Managerial Experience:
Six or more years experience in managing technical personnel and complex
activities. These experiences should be gained in areas of engineering
or technical operations and should include a minimum of five years in
product/engineering management.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
* Ability to develop designs from concept to final production.
* Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Must be a team player and able to get along with individuals
from other groups in the organization.
* Must have knowledge of applicable design standards such as API
and ASME.
* Computer literate in Windows operating systems utilizing Word,
Excel, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
MUST HAVE:
* Engineering Degree
* Must have oil field equipment (down-hole tool exposure)
